Quebec Skilled Worker Immigration – Language Requirements

Every applicant under the Quebec Skilled Worker Immigration Program is now required, with the submission of their initial application, to prove their language proficiency with official language test results. To demonstrate speaking and listening ability in French, the applicant must provide results from any one of the following:
• the Test d’évaluation du français adapté pour le Québec (TEFAQ) or Test d’évaluation du français (TEF) of the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris (CCIP);
• the Test de connaissance du français pour le Québec (TCFQ) or Test de connaissance du français (TCF) of the Centre international d’études pédagogiques (CIEP);
• the Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) of the CIEP;
• the Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF) of the CIEP.
To demonstrate proficiency in English the applicant must submit results from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS – General). Here is the table showing how the IELTS score will correspond to points awarded by Immigration Quebec. Points are attributed for both Listening & Speaking proficiency. The maximum number of points for English langauge proficiency is 6 points.

The main difference between the TEF/TEFAQ/TCF/TCFQ and the DELF/DALF is that the former is one single test where your score will determine the amount of points awarded for French language proficiency. For the DELF/DALF exams, you choose a level A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 and if you pass the exam you are awarded the points for that level.
The TEFAQ has two sections:
• Listening comprehension (60 items – 40 minutes)
• Oral expression (35 minutes)
The TCFQ has two sections:
• Listening comprehension (30 questions – 30 minutes)
• Oral expression (6 questions -15 minutes)

The DELF/DALF Exams have four sections (listening, speaking, reading and writing) they are all more than 1hr20mins long, the higher levels (B1-C2) are longer and have more questions.
