The Canadian Government is taking steps to protect foreign workers in Canada from risks related to abuse and exploitation in sex trade related businesses. Significant measures were recently announced by Canadian immigration Minister Jason Kenney. Foreign nationals brought to Canada to work in sex trade related businesses are at a high risk for exploitation and abuse. If immigration Canada can deny these businesses access to temporary foreign workers with temporary resident permits this will help protect these vulnerable workers.
Effective immediately, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada will issue negative Labor Market Opinions (LMOs) for all Canada immigration applications from employers linked to the sex trade, therefore preventing them from hiring temporary foreign workers. In addition, Immigration Canada is no longer processing Canada work permit applications from temporary foreign workers intending to work for sex trade related businesses.
